County Finance

The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Board of County Commissioners financial records. The Finance Office maintains financial records and prepares reports for all money received and disbursed for the Board of County Commissioners. The Clerk maintains these records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and various statutory requirements. The independent custody of the Board of County Commissioners funds ensures safeguarding of taxpayer dollars.

The Clerk's Finance Office prepares payroll for the both the Board of County Commissioners and the Clerk. Other payroll responsibilities include processing quarterly tax filings and the year-end W-2s.

In addition to receiving, safeguarding and disbursing Board of County Commissioners funds, the Clerk is responsible for preparing the County's financial statements.

The administration of long-term-debt is also a financial responsibility of the Clerk. The Clerk is responsible for the timely payment of principal and interest as well as ensuring the BOCC complies with its various bond requirements. This function helps ensure that Sumter County maintains the highest credit rating possible, which in turn reduces interest costs paid by tax payers.
